Double glazing does a lot more than just aid in thermal efficiency. Whilst that was the initial idea, implementing two panes of glass with a layer of insulating gas housed in a modern uPVC frame does a lot more than just keeping your home warm and cool during the summer.
Double glazing drastically increases the security of your home and drastically decreases the noise levels from outside within your home. Comfortable and quieter living conditions are on the horizon with double glazing from Ecovue. But before that, let’s get into detail on just how well our double glazing performs in other areas than thermal efficiency.
Modern Noise Reduction
In the same way that double glazing increases thermal retention by providing a barrier that is difficult for heat to pass through, double glazing installations also act as a similar barrier to noise. The barrier works in both directions, ensuring that you’re faced with fewer disturbances from noisy neighbours and similarly, they are less disturbed by you blasting your music, and 2am! Few things are more embarrassing than a visit from a disgruntled neighbour when your social gathering was going so well. If you’re the quiet type, you’ll love that you can hardly hear the cars on the road driving past, allowing you to really appreciate the tranquil space you’ve created in your home.
Sound is measured in decibels (dB), and humans are able to hear between 0 and 140 decibels. It’s unlikely you’d be able to hear the difference between a couple of decibels, but the shift every ten or so is absolutely noticeable. 30 dB is generally what we would consider noise. Anything below that is considered extremely quiet. Breathing, for instance, is around 10 dB, whilst we speak clearly at around 60 dB. Police sirens are around 100 dB, and fireworks notch in around 130 dB. Anything higher than 130 dB is a great risk to our ears.
Double glazing reduces the home by about 35 dB, which is quite significant. Take a normal conversation, for instance, happening right outside the window at 60 dB. Double glazing would reduce the levels of that conversation from the inside to around 25 dB, which is considered little more than a whisper, and that is if it is happening right outside the window. Sound dissipates as it travels, gradually reducing the dB level so that by the time it reaches your window, it has dissipated to a level where the significant reduction provided by double glazing makes a huge difference to the perceptible sound from inside the house.
Making your Home Safer
Ecovue double-glazed uPVC windows and doors are all outfitted with the latest security features money can buy. Whilst the various elements all act as a deterrent to potential intruders, they also perform at the moment, keeping you safe from criminals hoping to break in.
All of our installations have been awarded the British police issued ‘Secured by Design’ certificate, which is a well sought-after accreditation that shows the levels of security that the police are proud to put their stamp on. Through this assessment, we have been awarded PAS 024, which shows our installations are able to withstand a series of physical tests based on the most common methods of aggravated burglary.
Through various features, including welded frames, multi-point locking and toughened glass, our double glazing installations come as exceptionally secure as standard. The average burglar or potential intruder will most likely not even try to break into a house with such difficult protection to break through. Those who do try will find they’re not going to get very far without bringing much attention to themselves.
